About Happy Melody
Happy Melody is a foreign language school in Zagreb, open since 1992. Over the years we have built programmes for every age, from primary school pupils to adults. Lessons are in groups or one-on-one, at the school or online.
Who we are
Happy Melody began in 1992 as the language programme of a music and language playgroup. The programmes grew with our students, and today they cover primary and secondary school pupils, university students and adults.
All our programmes follow the Council of Europe framework (CEFR), with levels from A1 to C2.
Who runs the school
The school is run by Ivana Burić Kurtović, a teacher of English and German. For many years she has prepared students for Cambridge exams (B2 First, C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency) and Goethe certificates.

Students who stay
Some students have been learning at Happy Melody for ten, fourteen, even twenty years. The school follows them through different stages of life, from schoolwork and the matura to exams, work and polishing their language.
Languages we teach
- English: general courses, Cambridge exams (B2 First, C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency), IELTS and GRE
- German: general courses and Goethe certificates
- French: general courses and DELF and DALF
- Spanish: general courses and DELE
How lessons work
- Group size: up to 8 students, or one-on-one
- Where: at the school or online
- Schedule: 2 × 45 min or 1 × 60 min a week, or by arrangement
- Language of instruction: Croatian, or English for students who don't speak Croatian
- Levels: A1 to C2 on the Council of Europe scale

How we teach
- The person first, then the student. Before the programme, we get to know you: what you need, what motivates you and what holds you back.
- Experience without routine. Even after all these years, we keep questioning and changing our methods.
- We don't all learn the same way. The programme follows each student's goal, level and pace.
- A language for life. The aim is for you to use the language in conversation, at work and when travelling.
